Stress, Anxiety, Overwhelm, and Self‑Doubt

Experiences like stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or self‑doubt often emerge during challenging periods. These patterns can be rooted in earlier experiences where you learned to minimise your needs or question your worth.
In our work together, we’ll explore where these responses began and support new ways of relating to yourself.

Supportive therapy for...

Dreams, Nightmares, and the Unconscious

Recurring or vivid dreams, or nightmares often arise when deeper emotional layers you unknowingly may have supressed from your waking life are surfacing for attention.
I can support you in exploring the emotional and symbolic qualities of your dreams, how they connect to your past and present, and what they may be expressing or inviting you to be more conscious of.

Childhood Trauma and Early Emotional Wounds

The lingering effects of childhood trauma or early emotional wounds often show up as protective strategies like shutting down, staying vigilant, disconnecting from your body, or holding emotions in.
In therapy, we’ll compassionately inquire into your experiences and support a process of living with more authenticity and presence.

Life Transitions

Life transitions such as loss, shifts in relationships, identity, health, or direction can trigger old patterns of coping and long‑standing protective strategies, sometimes showing up as overwhelm, anxiety, shutdown, or disorientation, which can also surface in your dreams. I offer support to explore your experiences so you are in an empowered position to navigate your circumstances with more awareness and presence.

Unhelpful Coping Patterns

Patterns that are difficult to change, like overworking, people‑pleasing, avoidance, or comfort eating, often begin as adaptive strategies to numb, soothe, survive, or create a sense of control or peace when other support wasn’t available. In therapy, we can explore and honour the protective function of these patterns, and consider other possible alternatives.

THE PROCESS

What’s involved in sessions.

If you’re wondering what a therapy session with me might entail this offers an overview of how things might flow.

  • This phase focuses on safety, grounding, and connection.

    The first session will involve:

    • sharing who I am and how I work

    • outlining what therapy with me looks and feels like

    • space for any questions you may have

    • discussing consent, confidentiality, and boundaries

    • an initial grounding practice to help you settle into the space

This phase ensures you feel safe, informed, and supported before we move deeper.

Subsequent sessions may touch on aspects of this as the therapeutic process continues.

  • This phase is about hearing your story and clarifying what you hope to get out of it. We’ll consider this each session to ensure we support your intention for therapy.

    It includes:

    • exploring what brought you to therapy

    • hearing what feels difficult, confusing, or overwhelming

    • identifying what you’re hoping to gain from our work together

    • gently shaping a shared focus for the session or ongoing work

This phase helps us orient with intention toward what matters most to you.

  • This is the heart of each session — once we’re clearer about what your hoping to gain from our time together we can inquire into your experience to support insight, and emotional processing.

Some of what this involves could be:

    • exploring thoughts, feelings, and emotional patterns

    • working with somatic awareness and nervous system responses

    • processing memories, beliefs, or relational experiences

    • exploring dream imagery, symbolism, or unconscious themes

    • noticing protective parts, inner narratives, or core beliefs

  • This phase brings the session together to conclude and might include:

    • linking back to the intention

    • reflecting on insights, shifts, or emotional movement

    • identifying what feels clearer, lighter, or more understood

    • grounding practices to help you leave the session regulated

    • integrating what emerged into your daily life
