Stress, Anxiety, Overwhelm, & Self‑Doubt
Exploring and processing the deeper roots of emotional overwhelm.
A grounded, compassionate space to explore what feels too much to carry alone
Therapy for stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and self‑doubt.
Stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or self‑doubt often arise during difficult life experiences — illness, major transitions, identity shifts, or times when you’ve had to cope alone. These feelings can have deep roots in earlier experiences where you learned to question your worth, minimise your needs, or carry too much on your own.
Together, we explore where these patterns began and how they continue to shape your inner world, gently supporting healing and new ways of relating to yourself.
What is a trauma-informed approach to stress, anxiety, overwhelm, & self‑doubt in Therapy?
Rather than treating stress or anxiety as symptoms to eliminate, we explore them as signals — meaningful responses shaped by your history, your relationships, and the strategies you developed early in life to stay safe.
This approach is collaborative and paced with your nervous system. We explore your emotional landscape with curiosity and care, helping you uncover:
what your stress or anxiety is protecting you from
how early experiences shaped your sense of worth and safety
why overwhelm or self‑doubt may appear during transitions
how your body holds and expresses emotional strain
what new possibilities emerge when these patterns are understood
This is not about “fixing” you — it’s about understanding your experiences so that you’re able to respond from your in-present self.
Supportive therapy for…
stress, anxiety, overwhelm, & self‑doubt
Stress, anxiety, overwhelm, and self‑doubt often reflect deeper emotional layers that are ready to be seen. In therapy, we explore:
early attachment patterns that shaped your sense of safety
protective strategies like overworking, perfectionism, or shutting down
fears of being “too much” or “not enough”
emotional exhaustion from carrying responsibilities alone
identity shifts that unsettle your sense of self
the impact of illness, caregiving, or chronic stress
the internal pressure to cope without support
the body’s responses to long‑term strain
These experiences are not personal failures — they are adaptive responses to earlier environments where you had to manage more than you should have.
Therapy offers a grounded, compassionate space to understand these patterns and gently support new ways of relating to yourself.
THE PROCESS
Here’s how it works.
-
This phase focuses on safety, grounding, and connection.
It includes:
sharing who I am and how I work
outlining what therapy with me looks and feels like
space for any questions you may have
discussing consent, confidentiality, and boundaries
an initial grounding practice to help you settle into the space
This phase ensures you feel safe, informed, and supported before we move deeper.
-
This phase is about hearing your story and clarifying what you hope to get out of it.
It includes:
exploring what brought you to therapy
hearing what feels difficult, confusing, or overwhelming
identifying what you’re hoping to gain from our work together
gently shaping a shared focus for the session or ongoing work
This phase helps us orient with intention toward what matters most to you.
-
This is the heart of the session — a space for curiosity, insight, and emotional processing.
It may include:
exploring thoughts, feelings, and emotional patterns
working with somatic awareness and nervous system responses
processing memories, beliefs, or relational experiences
exploring dream imagery, symbolism, or unconscious themes
noticing protective parts, inner narratives, or core beliefs
This phase unfolds at your pace, with care and attunement.
-
This phase brings the session together with clarity, grounding, and integration.
It includes:
linking back to the intention
reflecting on insights, shifts, or emotional movement
identifying what feels clearer, lighter, or more understood
grounding practices to help you leave the session regulated
integrating what emerged into your daily life
This phase supports closure, steadiness, and continuity between sessions.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
— Carl Rogers.
